The Self Help Group programme was set up to empower Christian communities by savings mobilization, provision of credit investment and technical advice through effective and efficient co-ordination. The establishment and formation of Self Help programme in the Archdiocese of Nairobi dates back to 1983 when the first group was formed at Kiriko Parish in Mangu Deanery. The program emerged spontaneously from the traditional economic and social activities in a bid to quench the thirst of a more organized system which would fit in cash economy and community needs focusing on poverty alleviation.
